When you have to give a small amount of money to someone who provides a special service sometimes it helps to know how much is appropriate and appreciated.
The Maid- if you stay at an average hotel then you should leave $1- 2 dollars each night. If you stay at a luxury hotel you should tip $3- 5 each night.
The Bellhop- for the bellhop who totes your luggage up to your room, $2 a bag is becoming the norm.
The Valet Crew- it's customary to tip the valet staff $2 every time they bring your car around.
Pizza Delivery - if you don't want to tip pick up the pizza yourself otherwise the pizza man needs some love. $3 to $5 is a good tip for the average delivery.
Take Out Orders- They say 10 -15% but I have to disagree. If I don't tip the person who bags up my groceries why would I tip the person who puts my food in a bag? When somebody really puts forth an effort, they deserve a little something extra.
The Waiter/Waitress- No less than 15% - 20% for average service. For exceptional service it's okay to tip more!
Taxi Drivers- Sometimes it can be tough to be a cabbie, tip them 15%. If they help you with your bags add a buck or two.
Skycap at the Airport- I have learned on many occassions that a $1 skycap per bag fee is priceless. Facing check-in lines that seem to snake down the terminal make my trip to curbside on most days worth every penny.
Cocktail Waitresses- $1- $2 a drink
. keep your kids hydrated this summer with homemade popsicles.
Recipe: 1 package of fruit flavored Jell-o, 1 package kool-aid, 2/3 cup hot water, 2 cups cold water, 1 cup sugar.
In a large pouring pitcher mix together: Jell-o, Kool-Aid, sugar and hot water, until dissolved. Then add cold water. Pour into molds and freeze.
Need fun popsicle molds? www.wrapables.com
. www.wireandtwine.com I love their website! The designers print the alphabet and the name of what is on the tee upside down near the hem of the shirt just where kids can read them right side up. Where do people come up with these brilliant ideas!
. if you have kinky hair and need a little help turning shrunken kinks into super shiny stretched out curls by yourself some Curly Pudding.
. my daily tonic: Synergy Organic & Raw www.gtskombucha.com
Did you know the chef at the Google cafeterias prepares it from scratch for the employees and over 100 glasses are consumed daily.
The packaging of Synergy indicates that Kombucha supports digestion, metabolism, immune
system, appetite control, weight control, liver function, body
alkalinity, anti-aging, cell integrity and healthy skin and hair.
Warning- drink before you smell!
Kailee,
I don't usually disagree with you, but the tipping of Take-Out service I do!!! I worked at Chili's for many years and would have to put together the take-out food on many occassions. It is a LOT of work, because everything gets packaged differently when it's to-go (so that your food doesn't get soggy, cold, messy, etc). PLUS you have to remember to get all the xtra sides in the bag etc etc etc. It is VERY appreciated when you're tipped for doing this service!!!! It's actually MORE work than waiting on a table!!
Just wanted to add my two cents on the topic!

When I'm in NY I tip the grocery bagger in coins, they usually accept any amount. My ex-husband did this through Junior High and High School and was proud that he could buy the things he wanted, that his parents could not afford (100 pennies still = $1.) When I'm in Jamaica,W.I., if you have several bags, the bagger will take your bags to the car and I usually tip about JA$40 (anything under $50 is coins) or I give him a JA$50 bill, the equivalent of US$0.80 and US$0.90 respectively.
