Another workshop you must attend in 2007
The name of my workshop-
Currently, I do not have names for the workshops.
When- The January workshop is near full, and happens at the end of this month (January 29&30) and the second one is in April - Held downtown in an Urban Environment (23rd and 24th), the third will be in October, and will be available lighting as well, held outdoors downtown again. All will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the focus is on children's photography. Please contact [email protected] for complete information. There is room for 18 total in October, and with two recent cancellations, there is now room for two in April as well.
One thing everyone seems to love about my workshop is-
N/A - These are the first, and were initiated by a large amount of email requests by fellow photographers.
When you leave my goal is to-
Give you real information that you will be able to use immediately when you get home. Whether it be studio lighting, or natural light in an outdoor setting, I hope to give attendees insight into how I see things. A large amount of the classes will be on Photoshop post-processing techniques as well.
My strength in the industry is-
An honest approach to children's photography, and solid post-processing skills...an ability to read my subjects, and ultimately anticipate moments as they happen.
What I will serve for lunch-
Every workshop is catered, and we have cocktail/discussion hour as well...gotta have cocktails!
What you won't find at my workshop-
Lack-luster information, and falsified answers. If you like my style, you will leave knowing how I see things, and achieve the results that I do.
3 things you should bring with you-
A camera, an open mind, and lots of questions
A few things we do during your time at the workshop-
I have times that I will be teaching, and I also plan on working with people on a one on one basis during the course of both days.
How I came up with the name-
I came up with the themes for the workshops after getting many requests asking if I hosted them, or planned on doing such. I got an equal amount of interest in regards to my studio lighting, post-processing, and my "Urban Sessions"...from there, I decided to separate them into two sections, and include post-processing techniques in both workshops.
Me being called "famous"
Hell, I don't know...I never expected the response. Being published recently in Rangefinder Magazine was a shock (a welcome one), but still a shock. Getting emails from photographers from all over the country is very humbling as well. I am not one who likes to talk about myself, so it's hard for me to have recognition like this. I always try to remain humble, and always remember what is most important...my family. I don't want to look back one day and remember my daughter growing up before my eyes because I was too wrapped up in work. It's too easy to cross that line, and I won't do it.
The equipment I have with me this day-
I always shoot with my Canon 1DS MK II, and favorite lenses are: Canon 50/1.2L, Canon 85/1.2L, Canon 24-70 2.8L, Canon 70-200/2.8 IS...honestly, I am a lens junkie. I have too many , but I always mix them up, and never use the same thing consistently.
If not my workshop check out-
Pushing the envelope. Buy something that you don't know anything about and just start using it. I have always been a huge advocate of self-teaching. I read books all the time. I watch movies that are inspiring to me, I admire so many, but always try to do my own thing. Truthfully, I don't know who is offering workshops. I know that there are many out there. I would say visit WPPI or IUSA. There are many amazing speakers there!
