Photographer of the Year 2006
** BluDomain has collected a years worth of data. Anytime someone mentioned another photographer in a "good way" we put a star next to their name. We finalized the list and it was obvious who other photographers admired, were inspired by, looked up to, and bragged about. Now just because you didn't make this years list doesn't mean you weren't on our "Stardom Map" The map was continuous and lit up our office, we used metallic stars. We had to cut the list and that is always hard however we are very happy with the results.
Now it's your turn to be inspired as I interviewed each one of them. Same interview different day. At the end.. you will VOTE BluDomain's 2006 Photographer of the Year. That photographer will win a $500.00 cash prize and more but most importantly the prestigious title of being Blu's Photographer of the Year 2006 and of course the trophy will be presented.
Every day join us on the Blu carpet as we unveil our next nominee!! Today's "superstar" is John Michael Cooper.
My name is: John Michael Cooper
How long have you been a photographer? At 12 my dad introduced me to the camera, which I flirted with occasionally - at twenty I dropped everything in college to pursue photography, have been doing it ever since, I'm 40 now... 20 years.
Where I live.. Las Vegas, Nevada
A piece of equipment that I could never part with.. a tripod.. while most tripods are starting to be neglected and collecting dust my 3 legged friend is still doing tricks.
What advice do you have for photographers.. Ignore seasoned pros that say "that won't work in this area," "clients around here don't go for that kind of imagery, "you need to offer this stuff, shoot with this gear, and charge at least this much"... you are the artist then be the artist.
Something that is overrated.. photographers... we are way overrated.. we get paid to do "our" art, we are not special, ... we are just lucky bastards...
A helpful tip that has been useful.. in front of potential clients, show of your passion just like you show off your images.
A vendor or product that has helped me grow.. duh! Adobe Photoshop, and the www.digitalweddingforum.com
I'm in awe of... humble photographers that haven't realized that they are great yet!
The hardest part of photographing is.. shooting the first frame... after that its cake.
A single contributing factor to my success... passion!
John Michael's favorite image of recent
What do I do to unwind.. watch movies, drink beer.
My weakness is.. I like photography more than I like money.
Something that I have never done.. let's see, I can cross off lighting a bride on fire... hmmm.. how 'bout something with a rocket!
Where you'll find me on a Thursday night at 7 p.m.... at home with the family, thinking in the back of my mind how to strap a bride to a rocket.
3 adjectives that describe me... tenacious, passionate and occasionally stupid.
I'm addicted to... coffee in the morning, diet pepsi in the afternoon, and my wife at night.
If you are dying to know more about this woman on fire go to www.altf.com/blog and read the March 26th post. And of course you must check out his work at www.altf.com and if you want to attend the latest and greatest workshop check out www.antiworkshop.com

What I'm listening to- Modern Times by Bob Dylan. At 65-years Mr. Dylan still rocks! I love the lovesick ballad "Aint' Talkin," an Elizabeth ballad revolving on a six-syllable blues couplet. He defies all trends and resonates throughout all levels of our culture. You will truly enjoy Modern Times. www.itunes.com

The movie "Transformers" doesn't hit theaters until 2007 but these transformer toys will make fan boys giddy with delight.
Did you know.. The Tosa Tsuru paid the Russian Federal Space Agency to carry some yeast into orbit. They brought it back to the Tosa Tsuru Brewery where it was used to make sake that is supposedly out of this world. Can't be found in the US yet!
** I'm addicted to the Discovery Channel. My favorite new show "Street Junkies" Extreme athletes that are insane! Watch Kane Friesen as he plans to destroy the current world record for the fastest nose wheelie on a motorcycle. Or watch as Jacob Kilfoyle does freestyle swooping, a sport that is more extreme than regular skydiving. He skims the water at nearly 50mph and swoops the surface across shark-infested waters. His goal will be to land in the shark cage! If you can't get enough watch as Jason Slezak executes the largest land gap ever attempted, ramp to ramp on a kiteboard. Watch Tuesdays at 10pm (eastern time) www.discovery.com

The sequel to the bestseller Why Do Men Have Nipples the latest read is very educational. Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Sex has a simple question/ answer format with questions such as why do your ears pop on an airplane, can you get herpes from a hot tub, who snores more men or women, do dogs have belly buttons?
And if you are wondering why do men fall asleep after sex then here's your answer: There are hormones that are secreted at orgasm- proloactin and oxytocin- that facilitate sleep. Or how about this answer- You have seminal vesicle churning out fluid, the prostate gland producing an alkaline solution. It's like having five iron chefs in your crotch working to cook up this stuff.
** The story of two men: Daniel H. Burnham , the architect responsible for the fair's construction and H.H. Holmes, a serial killer masquerading as a charming doctor. A magical and majesty story that reveals the magical and horrifying dark side of the 19th-century Chicago.

** Start a "thank-you" journal. We all have so much to be thankful for that sometimes we take for granted the small things.
Each day write down 5 things you are thankful for. I'm thankful for Starbacks Russ who brought me a grande hot chocolate, thankful that my fish is alive today, thankful for the wine I get to sip before I get my bikini wax today, thankful for salads, and finally thankful for "puma" day at work.
Include photos, buy an unlined journal so you can scribble, include articles, make it personal! Fun to look back on.
