** We are not featuring a photographer of the day today due to BluDomain announcing the winner of our "BluDomain is Groovy" contest. This was a harder photo contest task however many photographers took it very seriously and that is what we loved about this contest. The contest was to find a person who has style, take their photo, make sure they have a "BluDomain is Groovy" sign and tell us why they wear their style well. We picked the winner this time based on the letter to BluDomain about "why" the subject had style.
And the winner is Chuck Anerino. We love these images, the afro, the story and the sign. He did an amazing job. Thank you for all of the entries** It's fun to take photographers outside of their comfort zone!
Here is his story:
Why does this guy have style? Well, if it isn't obvious in the photos, let me explain.
To me, "style" is the ability to be comfortably unique. With that definition in mind, I hit a local community college. I figured it would be filled with unique souls in search of themselves. Was I ever wrong. I was pretty disappointed, everyone looked the same to me, wearing abercrombie /gap/american eagle. I was about head home after an hour of searching, figuring a free interface just wasnt in the cards for me...AND THEN, he walked out of the library.
He was about 6'5", shirt open blowing in the breeze, bouncing to some tune on an Ipod and I thought, "whatever it takes, I am getting this guy to hold this sign and snapping a shot." He was walking towards me and I noticed an aura, yes, an actual aura around him. I waited for him to approach and opened with, "what are you listening to?" He pulled out his earphones and said, "Spill the Wine by War." Of course he was...what else should I have expected. I asked him if he had a minute that I'd like to photograph him holding a sign (I told him about the contest). He looked at my giant camera around my neck and said, "yeah, no problem."
So I have "Spill the Wine" playing in my head and we ducked into an empty classroom. I set him up near some natural window light and told him that I want to see who you are in these photos. He had absolutely ZERO inhibitions (to tell you the truth, he made ME comfortable). He started screaming, smiling, angry faces, etc. He rocked! We then went outside against some bricks, then over by a generator. I snapped about 60 total shots in about 10 minutes. I thanked him up and down knowing I got some pretty good stuff. Again, he said, "no problem." We were walking towards the parking lot where we both parked. He started to head over to his car...a 60's Firebird (great paint, busted interior). I asked him if he would mind taking a few more snaps near his car...again, "no problem." The results are what you see here. So why does this guy have "style". It wasnt his clothes, it wasnt his car, it wasnt his sunglasses...it was him. He was completely unique and comfortable with himself. To me, that is "style".

** On Tuesday Aundrea and Jen and maybe me (I haven't decided if I want to work that hard) bought pedometers. Jen brought up the subject that we all sit so much as we are slaves to our computers. Sitting is not healthy for anyone. Long term health can be effected by a sedentary lifestyle.
Pedometers count steps, it's that simple. Attach your pedometer and attempt to reach the goal of 10,000 steps per day. 10,000 steps is the equivalent of walking 5 miles. Boy was Aundrea shocked at how many steps she takes a day. Most sedentary people take less than 3,000 steps a day. The goal is to finish those 10,000 steps before you go to bed. Of course the more the better. In the end you have to "make time" everyday to enjoy some type of exercise. We forget that taking care of ourselves is very important to a healthy lifestyle. I love pedometers they teach you how to be consistent. Consistency has many benefits including weight loss. You can buy pedometers anywhere. www.pedometersusa.com
